CHIROPRACTIC CARE

In addition to offering Spinal Decompression Therapy for people with disc and degeneration problems we also offer traditional Chiropractic Care

I grew up in a Chiropractic family - my father has been a Chiropractor for 45 years...and counting!  I've seen some pretty incredible miracles, and am happy to be able to incorporate many of his "how to" nuggets into our practice.

A lot of people don't always know what Chriopractic really is, and because of this many people have different ideas of what Chiropractors do.  It's really quite simple:  "Chiropractic works by helping your body restore proper movement and function."

I've put together a Q&A to help answer any questions.

Q:  What is Chiropractic?

A:  Since it's beginning, Chiropractic has been based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. While the brain is protected by the skull, the spinal cord is more vulnerable, covered by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion, they can irritate the nervous system. This irritation can cause pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and muscle tightness. Chiropractic restores the motion; thereby removing the irritation. If after a thorough examination and a review of your health history, it`s determined that Chiropractic is right course to take we will recommend a specific Chiropractic care program.

Q:  What is the history of Modern Chiropractic?

A:  Chiropractic started in 1895 when its inventor, Dr. Daniel Palmer (1845 - 1913) discovered what he believed to be the cause of all ailments and its cure.

A grocer born in Ontario, Canada who settled in Davenport, Iowa, Daniel Palmer had opened a "magnetic studio" to treat the sick and to try find the cause of disease.

One day in September 1895 he treated his janitor named Harvey Lillard, who had been deaf for seventeen years. In his autobiography, Palmer said he was curious with the fact that when the janitor stooped, he (the janitor) "felt something give way in his back and immediately became deaf". Upon examining the man, Palmer was certain that there's something wrong with the man's back and this could be a cause that led to his problem. A keen student of human anatomy, Palmer said, "I reasoned that if the vertebra was replaced, the man's hearing should be restore". After persuading the man, Palmer examined Lillard, saw that his spine was out of alignment and offered to readjust it in hopes of relieving a pinched nerve leading to his ears.  Using only his hands, Palmer worked his magic -- a few gentle thrusts restored Lillard's spine and returned much of his hearing.  The vertebrata was moved to its place and miraculously the man could hear after being deaf for so long!
